Hospital Communications Specialist – Medical Center Downtown (Part-Time/50%)

About the Role

As a Hospital Communications Specialist at UIOWA Medical Center Downtown, you'll be instrumental during medical and healthcare emergencies, coordinating rapid responses and ensuring accurate, timely communication between hospital personnel, patients, and the public. This part-time role puts you at the center of critical operations that keep our Iowa City medical center running smoothly.

What You'll Do

• Coordinate responses from medical and healthcare personnel during multiple emergency situations
• Screen and direct communications between hospital staff, patients, families, and external parties
• Operate and maintain the hospital paging system and related communication infrastructure
• Document communications and procedures during emergency incidents
• Support urgent hospital-wide notifications and alert procedures
• Assist clinical and administrative departments with time-sensitive messaging
• Ensure compliance with communication protocols and confidentiality requirements

What We're Looking For

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with composure under pressure
• Working knowledge of hospital operations, healthcare systems, and emergency protocols
