Evidence Action is a nonprofit that scales cost-effective, evidence-based health and development programs at large scale. Roles center on rigorous measurement so programs stay effective as they grow.

Evidence Action is hiring a (Senior) Director, Global Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning to lead measurement strategy across our portfolio of evidence-based global health programs in the United States. If you believe rigorous data should drive every decision that reaches millions of people, this leadership role was built for you.

About the Role

As (Senior) Director, Global Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning, you will own the systems that prove and improve our impact. Based in the US, this full-time, in-office position sits at the intersection of research, operations, and program delivery, ensuring that what we learn translates directly into stronger interventions and healthier communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the global vision and standards for monitoring, evaluation, and learning across Evidence Action's programs.
  • Design measurement frameworks that track progress and outcomes at every stage of program delivery.
  • Translate findings from leading academic research, including work by Nobel-recognized economists, into practical operational guidance.
  • Build, lead, and develop a team responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Partner with program, technical, and leadership teams to embed a culture of continuous, data-driven decision-making.
  • Communicate insights clearly to internal stakeholders and external partners to sustain accountability and scale.

Qualifications

  • Substantial leadership experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning, ideally within global health or international development.
  • Deep fluency in research methods, impact measurement, and the translation of academic evidence into field practice.
  • A track record of managing high-performing technical teams and complex, multi-program measurement systems.
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and communication skills, with the ability to influence across functions.
  • Authorization to work in the United States; this is an on-site role rather than a remote position.

About Evidence Action

Evidence Action delivers data-driven interventions that improve lives at extraordinary scale. We seek out overlooked global health challenges, deploy solutions proven to work, and operationalize the best academic research available. Measurement is core to who we are: we evaluate progress and outcomes at every step so that our programs keep building healthier futures for generations to come.

About this role & career path

This leadership seat sits above technical MEL staff and beside program and research leads. Success is measured by credible evidence systems, decision-useful learning, and clear communication of results—not by clinical hours.

Build the skills for this role

Prioritize evaluation design, mixed-methods analysis, impact measurement, and stakeholder communication. Adjacent free learning (costs as listed):

Be ready to walk through an evaluation you led end-to-end: theory of change, design trade-offs, data quality controls, and how findings changed program practice. Expect scenario questions on conflicting results, partner pushback, and prioritizing learning under tight budgets.

Strong fit if you have senior MEL leadership in global health or development, comfort with both rigor and operational constraints, and experience turning evidence into decisions at scale. Less ideal if you seek pure academic research without program ownership.
