Vehicle Mechanic Helper

Hardin-Jefferson Independent School District is seeking a Vehicle Mechanic Helper to join our Transportation Department. In this full-time position, you'll support our mechanic team in maintaining and repairing the fleet of vehicles that keep our schools running safely and reliably.

About This Position

The Vehicle Mechanic Helper role is essential to the Transportation Department's mission of keeping Hardin-Jefferson's district vehicles in safe, roadworthy condition. You'll work alongside experienced mechanics, learning skilled trades while contributing directly to student transportation safety. This position operates in our Transportation facility and involves hands-on mechanical work in a team environment.

Your Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics with routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on district vehicles including buses and service vehicles
• Perform basic mechanical tasks such as fluid changes, filter replacements, and component inspections
• Support diagnostics and troubleshooting under the direction of senior mechanics
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the maintenance facility and work areas
• Document work completed on vehicles and maintain accurate maintenance records
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
• Complete assigned projects following established procedures and district standards

Qualifications

• Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B with S and P Endorsements)
• Ability to perform physical duties, including lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
