Join The Salvation Army as a Shelter Monitor in Wichita Falls, Wichita County, and play a vital role in providing safe overnight accommodation and essential support to individuals experiencing homelessness. This is a part-time position working overnight hours (12:00 AM – 9:00 AM, three days weekly) at our Corps shelter facility.
About the Role
As a Shelter Monitor, you'll be the steady presence our residents need during the night shift. You'll welcome individuals into the shelter, conduct intake assessments, and create a secure, dignified environment where vulnerable people can rest safely. Your attention, professionalism, and compassion directly impact the wellbeing and safety of those in our care.
What You'll Do
- Greet and process overnight shelter residents, gathering essential intake information
- Complete intake documentation and maintain comprehensive shift records and logs
- Monitor resident activity throughout your shift, ensuring compliance with shelter policies and house rules
- Maintain facility safety and security, responding to resident needs and concerns
- Uphold cleanliness and safety standards in shelter spaces
- Provide basic support and referrals to community resources as appropriate
- Communicate effectively with residents and document incidents or notable observations
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in customer service, case management, residential care, or related field preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work independently during overnight hours and remain alert throughout your shift
- Genuine commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness with dignity and respect
- Reliable, professional demeanor and consistent attendance
