About the Role
This is a full-time, ongoing position offering $95,000–$110,000 annually, commensurate with your experience. As our Senior Writer and Director of Communications, you'll take the lead on developing and executing integrated communication strategies that advance the Ballmer Institute's mission and values.
What You'll Do
- Craft compelling written content for diverse audiences and channels, including website copy, email communications, reports, and promotional materials
- Develop and implement a cohesive communication strategy across platforms
- Manage day-to-day communications for the Ballmer Institute, ensuring consistent messaging and brand voice
- Collaborate with internal departments and leadership to gather information and distill complex topics into accessible, persuasive narratives
- Edit and refine content from multiple stakeholders to maintain quality and consistency
- Monitor communication effectiveness and adjust strategies based on audience feedback and engagement metrics
- Represent the organization at events and in external communications as needed
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience as a writer, communications professional, or similar role in a higher education or mission-driven organization
- Excellent writing and editing skills with ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences
- Strategic thinking: ability to develop communication plans aligned with organizational goals
- Experience managing multiple communication projects simultaneously
- Proficiency with content management systems and basic web editing (or willingness to learn)
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
