Senior Validation and Characterization Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential semiconductor client seeking a Senior Validation and Characterization Engineer in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is a hybrid role offering flexibility to work from home depending on business needs, with candidates expected to live within commutable distance or be willing to relocate.

Our client develops advanced mixed-signal integrated circuits, and you'll play a critical role in post-silicon validation and new product introductions. You'll work within a collaborative, cross-functional development team, leading technical efforts and mentoring junior engineers while driving continuous improvements to test infrastructure and methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Bench test, debug, and characterize embedded on-chip circuitry including amplifiers, data converters, and power converters to ensure functionality and performance specifications
• Design, develop, and debug silicon validation and characterization board-level hardware; bring up platforms prior to first silicon
• Develop automated test frameworks and regression test suites in Python to optimize validation efficiency
• Architect and drive implementation of software framework methodologies based primarily in Python
• Collaborate with Validation and Production Test engineering peers to implement best practices and continuous improvements
• Work closely with Design Engineers, Systems Engineers, and Application Engineers to understand requirements and use cases
• Analyze test results and identify failures/defects using business intelligence tools such as Spotfire, Excel, and JMP
• Support and develop automation software for test equipment including NI STS/PXIe platforms and bench-top instruments
• Write technical reports and summaries of all data collected
• Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to other engineering team members
• Report project status and progress to program management on a regular basis

What We're Looking For

• BSc, MSc, or MEng in Electrical & Electronic Engineering with proven experience in an IC Validation or Test Engineering role
• Advanced electrical engineering knowledge in analog, digital, power electronics, or audio engineering
• Deep understanding of mixed-signal building blocks including ADCs, DACs, PLLs, amplifiers, LDOs, SMPSs, signal processing and measurement, and IC control/communication protocols
• Experience in scripting languages, with Python preferred for test automation and data analysis
• Ability to handle engineering tasks combining experience in Characterization, Failure Analysis, Test Development, Statistical analysis, and Customer Support
• Strong organizational skills with ability to schedule time and drive deliverables within established timelines
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills
• Must be able to access technical data without requirement for an export license; export control restrictions based upon applicable laws would prohibit nationals of certain embargoed countries from working in this position
