Senior Software Engineer, Mobile (React Native)

About the Role

As our Senior Software Engineer, Mobile (React Native), you'll lead the next chapter of Forerunner's mobile experience. Our React Native app is central to how municipalities gather, respond to, and share real-world information from the ground. Sitting at the crossroads of geospatial data, field operations, and climate adaptation, this is a role where speed, dependability, and ease of use translate directly into better outcomes for the communities we serve. The position is full time and open to remote candidates.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale performant React Native applications across both iOS and Android
• Take features from initial concept and architecture all the way through launch and ongoing refinement
• Craft responsive, intuitive interfaces that hold up under tough field conditions such as weak connectivity and time pressure
• Partner with product, design, and backend colleagues to ship features that matter
• Connect and tune APIs, geospatial datasets, and real-time workflows inside the mobile app
• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks to deliver native-like responsiveness
• Help guide mobile architecture, including deciding when native modules are the right call for platform-specific needs
• Strengthen developer experience through better tooling, testing, and engineering practices
• Coach fellow engineers and elevate the overall standard of mobile work

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software engineering, with a concentration in mobile development
• 3+ years shipping production apps with React Native
• Strong command of JavaScript/TypeScript and React
• Proven track record building and supporting cross-platform iOS and Android apps
• Solid grasp of mobile performance, UI/UX, and responsive design
• Experience wiring up RESTful APIs and managing intricate data flows
• Working knowledge of native development (Swift/Kotlin or Objective-C/Java) and when to reach for it
• Sharp product instincts and comfort navigating ambiguous, fast-paced settings
• Clear communication and a collaborative mindset

Nice to have: offline-first or field-based app experience; a background in geospatial data, mapping, or GIS; familiarity with state management (Redux, Context API) and modern mobile patterns; experience with mobile CI/CD and app store releases; or time spent in GovTech, climate tech, or other complex, regulated domains.
