Seed Quality Testing Lead

Ball Horticultural Company is looking for a full-time Seed Quality Testing Lead to join our team in Northwoods, DuPage County. In this role, you'll lead our seed testing programs and establish quality standards that ensure excellence across our global operations.

About This Position

This position places you at the forefront of seed quality assurance at Ball Horticultural Company. You'll take ownership of seed testing programs, methodologies, and protocols that support our worldwide growing operations. Drawing on expertise in plant physiology and seed science, you'll integrate cutting-edge testing technologies with analytical rigor to evaluate seed performance and maintain the quality standards our customers depend on.

Responsibilities

• Establish and refine seed testing protocols and quality evaluation standards
• Conduct and oversee diagnostic testing to measure seed germination, vigor, purity, and disease presence
• Operate laboratory equipment and interpret results using advanced analytical methods
• Compile testing data into actionable reports and quality assessments
• Work with breeding, production, and supply chain teams on seed quality issues and improvements
• Maintain comprehensive testing records and ensure regulatory compliance across all testing activities
• Provide guidance and training to laboratory technicians on testing procedures
• Stay current with seed science advancements and incorporate new methodologies into our testing programs

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in seed science, plant physiology, horticulture, agronomy, or related discipline
• 5 or more years of hands-on experience in seed testing, seed quality programs, or plant physiology
• Practical knowledge of seed testing standards, germination testing, and seed health diagnostics
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation, quality control systems, and testing documentation
• Capability in data analysis, technical reporting, and clear communication of findings
• Leadership experience managing laboratory teams or technical staff
• Analytical thinking, strong attention to detail, and commitment to quality and precision
• Ability to work cross-functionally with researchers, agronomists, and production specialists
