Research Scientist II – Health and Clinical Outcomes Research

UTMB Health is seeking a Research Scientist II in Health and Clinical Outcomes Research to join our team in Island, Galveston County. This full-time position offers the opportunity to design and lead rigorous studies that advance evidence-based medicine and improve patient outcomes across our academic health center.

About the Role

As a Research Scientist II, you will direct health outcomes and clinical research initiatives that translate evidence into practice. You'll combine research design expertise with statistical rigor to address meaningful clinical questions and generate insights that inform care delivery and policy at UTMB Health and beyond.

What You'll Do

• Conceptualize, design, and oversee clinical outcomes research studies aligned with institutional and departmental research priorities
• Lead all phases of research execution: literature synthesis, protocol development, recruitment, data collection, and analysis
• Conduct advanced statistical analyses and create data visualizations that communicate research findings effectively
• Partner with clinical teams, clinician-investigators, and interdisciplinary collaborators to integrate research into clinical workflows
• Identify funding opportunities and develop compelling grant proposals to support research initiatives
• Author manuscripts and prepare research presentations for peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences
• Maintain compliance with institutional review board standards, regulatory requirements, and research ethics guidelines
• Mentor junior research staff and contribute to the broader research community through publications and scholarship

What We're Looking For

• Master's degree or PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, health outcomes research, clinical research, public health, or related discipline
• 3 or more years of professional experience in health research, clinical outcomes analysis, or equivalent research settings
• Proficiency with statistical software (R, SAS, SPSS, Stata) and data management platforms
• Proven ability to design methodologically sound studies and interpret complex data analyses
• Track record of writing research proposals, protocols, and peer-reviewed publications
• Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Self-directed work style with collaborative spirit in team-based research environments
• Solid foundation in research ethics, regulatory pathways, and IRB processes
