The Hospital of Central Connecticut seeks a dedicated Registered Nurse for our Labor and Delivery unit in Wolcott, New Haven County. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to provide compassionate, expert care during one of life's most meaningful moments—birth—as part of Connecticut's trusted Hartford HealthCare system.

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in our Labor and Delivery department, you'll deliver comprehensive patient care across the prenatal, labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum phases. You'll work day shifts, 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., on a schedule that includes every third weekend and alternating holidays. Your nursing expertise will directly influence patient outcomes and the experiences of families during this transformative life event.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor and assess laboring patients, including vital signs, fetal heart rate, and contractions
  • Administer medications, manage pain relief options, and provide comfort measures
  • Assist physicians and midwives during labor and delivery procedures
  • Educate patients and families about labor progression, delivery options, and postpartum care
  • Provide immediate postpartum and newborn care, including initial assessments
  • Document patient care accurately and maintain comprehensive medical records
  • Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure optimal outcomes

What We're Looking For

  • Current Connecticut Registered Nurse license (or compact license eligibility)
  • Experience in acute care nursing, ideally with labor and delivery or women's health background
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Compassion, patience, and ability to support patients during vulnerable moments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and patient safety
