Proposal Manager

Umbra is seeking a detail-oriented Proposal Manager to join our Arlington, Arlington County office. In this full-time position, you'll lead the end-to-end development of competitive proposals for our space technology solutions, working alongside engineering, sales, and business teams to secure mission-critical contracts.

Role Overview

As Proposal Manager at Umbra, you'll own the strategic planning, coordination, and delivery of proposals in response to customer RFPs and solicitations. You'll manage timelines, budgets, and cross-functional resources to ensure proposals reflect our technical excellence and competitive positioning in the space sector. This role requires someone who can synthesize complex technical information, maintain rigorous compliance standards, and deliver polished, persuasive documents that win business.

What You'll Do

• Lead proposal kickoff meetings and establish schedules, themes, and resource allocation for each pursuit
• Coordinate with engineering, product, and operations teams to gather technical content and validate proposal claims
• Research customer requirements and competitive landscape to craft differentiated value propositions
• Develop proposal outlines, graphics, and executive summaries that communicate complex capabilities clearly
• Conduct quality reviews for compliance, consistency, and alignment with company positioning
• Maintain proposal databases, templates, and lessons-learned documentation
• Manage proposal budgets and track metrics on win rates and proposal cycle times

Who We're Looking For

• 3+ years of proposal management experience in B2B or government contracting environments
• Proven ability to manage multiple proposals simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to distill technical concepts for diverse audiences
• Experience with RFP/RFQ processes and understanding of proposal evaluation criteria
• Familiarity with proposal management software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Detail-oriented mindset with commitment to compliance and quality standards
• Interest in space technology or defense/aerospace sectors is a plus
