Role Overview

In this Production Supervisor - 2nd Shift Machine Shop position with Muellerwaterproducts in Chattanooga, TN, you will guide second-shift machine shop activities to keep output aligned with daily goals. The full-time role centers on directing shop floor workflow, reinforcing safe practices, and helping the team meet quality and efficiency targets in a production environment that runs after regular daytime hours. You will serve as the primary point of contact for shift-level decisions while coordinating closely with other departments and earlier shifts.

Your Responsibilities

• Direct second-shift manufacturing activities within the machine shop to meet scheduled production volumes and order priorities.
• Supervise machine operators and support staff, assigning work, monitoring progress, and providing real-time guidance.
• Uphold strict safety protocols and quality checkpoints throughout machining, tooling, and assembly steps.
• Review production metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement short-term adjustments that improve throughput.
• Coordinate material flow, tool availability, and equipment readiness so the night shift can run without unnecessary stops.
• Train operators on standard work procedures, proper machine setup, and safe operating techniques.
• Document shift performance, incidents, and hand-off notes for the following crew and management.
• Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and planning teams to resolve issues that arise on second shift.

Skills & Qualifications

• Proven leadership experience supervising production teams in a machine shop or similar manufacturing setting.
• Working knowledge of machining processes, equipment setup, and common CNC or manual tooling practices.
• Ability to read blueprints, work orders, and production schedules accurately under time pressure.
• Strong communication and coaching skills for directing second-shift personnel and resolving conflicts quickly.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and quality standards used in metalworking environments.
• Solid problem-solving ability to address equipment, process, or personnel challenges during evening hours.
• Prior manufacturing supervisory background is preferred; relevant technical or vocational training is valued.
