Role Overview
As a Principal or Senior Principal Systems Design Engineer, you will own the technical strategy and system architecture for large-scale, sophisticated programs. This leadership role demands deep expertise in systems engineering, strategic influence across engineering disciplines, and the ability to drive architectural decisions that define program success. You'll work on advanced technologies where your designs have direct impact on operational performance and capability.
Responsibilities
- Design and architect large-scale, complex systems aligned with program requirements and customer objectives
- Lead technical strategy development and drive systems engineering decisions across multi-disciplinary teams
- Conduct trade studies, feasibility analyses, and performance optimizations for system designs
- Mentor engineering staff and provide technical guidance to junior team members
- Direct design reviews, validate technical approaches, and ensure compliance with applicable standards and security requirements
- Collaborate with program management, hardware and software teams to translate customer needs into robust system solutions
- Support proposal efforts and contribute advanced technical solutions for new business opportunities
- Ensure designs meet reliability, manufacturability, and sustainment objectives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline
- 15+ years of professional experience in systems engineering, system design, or equivalent technical roles
- Proven expertise designing and architecting large, complex systems
- Strong command of systems engineering processes, methods, and industry standards
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to influence technical teams
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SAP (Special Access Program) security clearance; U.S. citizenship required
- Willingness to travel up to 10% annually
