Patient Safety Associate Medical Director

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is hiring a Patient Safety Associate Medical Director in Boston, Suffolk County for a full-time position leading medical safety strategy and pharmacovigilance across our product portfolio. This role combines clinical leadership with regulatory expertise to safeguard patient well-being and ensure compliance with global safety standards.

About the Role

You'll serve as a medical safety leader responsible for evaluating, managing, and communicating drug safety risks for both marketed and investigational products. This position integrates clinical judgment with pharmacovigilance best practices, working across development and commercial stages to identify emerging safety signals and implement protective measures that meet regulatory expectations worldwide.

What You'll Do

• Review and assess adverse events, safety signals, and clinical data to inform medical safety decisions
• Direct pharmacovigilance activities including post-marketing surveillance monitoring and analysis
• Develop and execute safety risk management plans aligned with regulatory requirements across major markets
• Prepare comprehensive safety assessments, case narratives, and regulatory submissions for health authorities
• Collaborate with clinical development, regulatory affairs, quality, and cross-functional teams to optimize product safety profiles
• Apply current scientific methodologies to interpret complex safety data and recommend mitigation strategies
• Maintain detailed knowledge of global pharmacovigilance regulations and agency expectations

What We're Looking For

• MD or DO with valid, unrestricted medical license in good standing
• Experience in pharmacovigilance, drug safety, medical affairs, or clinical medicine within pharmaceutical or healthcare environments
• Solid understanding of global pharmacovigilance regulations and standards (FDA, EMA, ICH guidelines)
• Ability to independently evaluate clinical safety information and communicate findings to scientific and regulatory audiences
• Strong organizational and project management skills for managing multiple products and competing priorities
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
