Director, Contract Operations – US Trade & Distribution

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced Director, Contract Operations - US Trade & Distribution to lead its contracting function in Boston, Suffolk County. This full-time, on-site leadership role drives revenue protection and risk reduction across every franchise through disciplined, end-to-end contract management.

About the Role

As Director, Contract Operations - US Trade & Distribution at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, you will own the complete contracting lifecycle and report to the Senior Director, Contract Operations & Deal Assessment. From initial drafting through negotiation, signature, and ongoing compliance, you will guide a high-performing Contract Operations team and bring consistency, speed, and rigor to how agreements are built and managed across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the full contracting lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation, execution, and post-signature compliance.
• Lead, develop, and mentor the Contract Operations team to deliver dependable results across all franchises.
• Create and maintain standardized contract templates that streamline turnaround and reduce variability.
• Build and govern contracting playbooks that codify best practices and approval pathways.
• Partner across functions to protect revenue and proactively limit contractual and commercial risk.
• Strengthen processes and controls that support trade and distribution agreements throughout the United States.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership in contract operations, deal management, or a closely related discipline.
• Deep command of the contracting lifecycle, from negotiation strategy through compliance oversight.
• Proven success developing templates, playbooks, and standardized operating procedures.
• Strong people-leadership skills with a track record of building and guiding capable teams.
• Sharp judgment for balancing revenue objectives with risk mitigation.
• Excellent collaboration and communication abilities for working across business functions.
