Outreach Resource Specialist – STAR Village

About the Role

As an Outreach Resource Specialist, you'll be the vital link between vulnerable community members and the services and support they need. Working as part of the STAR Village team in Tucson, you'll meet people where they are—literally—providing direct engagement, assessment, and connections to housing, health care, mental health services, and other critical resources. This is hands-on, relationship-driven work that changes lives and stabilizes communities.

What You'll Do

• Conduct street outreach in encampments, washes, shelters, and public spaces throughout Pima County where unhoused individuals congregate
• Identify, engage, and build trust with participants through compassionate, non-judgmental interaction
• Assess participants' immediate needs, barriers, and eligibility for housing and supportive services
• Provide direct resource navigation, connecting individuals with shelter, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, employment, and other essential support
• Maintain accurate documentation of participant interactions, assessments, and referrals
• Collaborate with partner agencies, shelters, and service providers to ensure warm handoffs and continuity of care
• Support participants in obtaining identification, insurance, and other documentation needed to access services

What We're Looking For

• Genuine empathy for individuals experiencing homelessness and commitment to harm-reduction principles
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to connect with people across diverse backgrounds and circumstances
• Physical ability to conduct street outreach in varied weather and terrain conditions
• Self-direction, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently in the field
• Reliable transportation and valid driver's license preferred
• Experience in outreach, case management, social services, or related fields is a plus; willingness to learn is essential
• Ability to maintain boundaries while staying deeply engaged with participants' wellbeing
