About the Role

This position is based at Sumner Middle School, serving approximately 160 students.
What You'll Do
- Plan and teach standards-aligned social studies lessons across history, civics, geography, and economics
- Create an inclusive, discussion-based classroom environment that encourages student inquiry and civic participation
- Develop formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and inform instruction
- Collaborate with colleagues on integrated units and school-wide initiatives
- Maintain regular communication with families about student progress and learning goals
- Contribute to the school's commitment to strong relationships and positive school culture
What We're Looking For
- Valid Maine teaching certification in social studies (or equivalent)
- Strong content knowledge of US and world history, government, and geography
- Proven ability to engage and inspire middle school students
