Middle School Head Cheer Coach

The Opportunity

Mancos School District Region 6 serves approximately 500 students across preK–12 grades in southwest Colorado, maintaining a commitment to knowing and supporting every learner. Operating on an innovative four-day school week with bi-monthly professional development Fridays, the district creates space for educators to balance instructional excellence with personal and professional growth. As the Middle School Head Cheer Coach, you'll lead a dynamic cheer program that reflects the district's values of community engagement and student development, building confidence and teamwork among young athletes.

What You'll Do

• Organize and conduct competitive tryouts, selecting and forming a middle school cheer team
• Plan, lead, and supervise all practice sessions with age-appropriate conditioning and skill progression
• Design and choreograph competitive routines and stunting sequences, emphasizing safety and proper technique
• Manage team discipline, sportsmanship, and athletic compliance in accordance with district and league regulations
• Prepare the cheer team for competitions, performances, and school events throughout the season
• Communicate regularly with student athletes, parents, and guardians regarding team expectations and performance
• Mentor and develop young athletes' leadership, teamwork, and personal responsibility
• Maintain equipment and facilities in safe, usable condition

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience in cheerleading, athletics, or youth coaching
• Current or willingness to obtain coaching certification appropriate to your state and sport
• Current or willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
• Strong ability to work effectively with middle school students and their families
• Solid understanding of cheer safety practices, liability, and risk management
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
