The Opportunity

Duke Energy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I ready to contribute to the design, analysis, and operation of mechanical systems that power communities across the region. In this role, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians, applying fundamental engineering principles to real-world challenges in energy production and distribution. Your Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of mechanical components and systems for power generation facilities
• Conduct technical analysis and performance evaluations on equipment and mechanical assemblies
• Participate in troubleshooting mechanical failures and recommending corrective actions
• Prepare technical documentation, drawings, and reports to support engineering projects
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
• Contribute to equipment maintenance planning and system optimization efforts

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline
• Strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science
• Proficiency with engineering software and CAD tools
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and power plant operations preferred
• Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and equipment drawings
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities in a collaborative environment
