Role Overview
The assistant wrestling coach works under the direction of the head coach to strengthen the varsity and junior varsity wrestling programs at Williston High School. In this full-time role with Williston Basin School District #7, you'll train and mentor wrestlers while building their technical skills, physical conditioning, and mental resilience. This position directly impacts athlete development and program competitiveness within the district's athletics department.
Core Duties
- Conduct practice sessions and training drills for assigned weight classes across multiple skill levels
- Teach wrestling fundamentals, techniques, strategy, and match preparation
- Monitor athlete safety, proper technique execution, and compliance with association rules
- Coordinate practice logistics including mat setup, equipment maintenance, and team scheduling
- Assist with tournament preparation, scheduling, and competition management
- Support athlete recruitment and program retention efforts
- Model professionalism and positive leadership both on and off the mat
- Maintain practice records and athlete progress documentation
Requirements
- Valid North Dakota coaching credential or teaching license (or ability to obtain)
- Competitive wrestling experience at high school, college, or equivalent level
- Demonstrated knowledge of wrestling techniques, training methodology, and competition rules
- Strong communication and mentorship abilities
- Current or obtainable First Aid and CPR certification
- Willingness to pass a background check as required by Williston Basin School District #7
