Asian Americans for Equality is seeking a full-time Handyman to join our maintenance team in Flushing, Queens. This position offers the opportunity to maintain and improve affordable housing for the families and individuals we serve across our properties in Queens and Manhattan.
Role Overview
As a Handyman with Asian Americans for Equality, you'll perform essential maintenance and repair work across our diverse residential properties. You'll be part of a team dedicated to ensuring safe, well-maintained homes for over 1,100 residents across 50 multifamily properties in neighborhoods including Flushing, Chinatown/Lower East Side, and the Far Rockaways. This hands-on role combines problem-solving with direct impact on the communities we serve.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs in residential units and common areas
- Address plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building systems issues
- Respond to tenant maintenance requests and coordinate with residents
- Maintain detailed records of completed work and materials used
- Ensure all repairs meet safety codes and building standards
- Participate in preventive maintenance programs to extend asset life
- Work collaboratively with property management and supervisory staff
Requirements
- Proven experience as a handyman, maintenance technician, or in a similar repair and maintenance role
- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance
- Ability to read and follow work orders and safety procedures
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with residents and team members
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Willingness to work in a mission-driven, community-focused environment
