GL-Accountant / Bilanzbuchhalter:in (gn)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential social media agency in Berlin seeking a GL Accountant to lead their accounting transformation. You will take ownership of month-end close preparation, deliver reporting-ready financials on tight deadlines, and gradually bring externally-managed bookkeeping in-house. A significant portion of your role involves driving the NetSuite ERP implementation—from process design and data migration to establishing system logic that supports scalable operations.

You'll report directly to executive leadership and prepare consolidated reporting for the parent organization. While this is not a people-management role, you will provide technical guidance and mentorship to the accounting team, leading through expertise rather than authority. This is a hands-on position with strategic influence: you'll build the foundation for automated reporting and robust processes from the ground up.

What We're Looking For

• Several years of deep accounting experience in both operational execution and process development
• Strong HGB accounting knowledge with the ability to prepare financials for external auditor review
• Completed degree in accounting, finance, or business with a focus on financial accounting—or equivalent professional certification (Bilanzbuchhalter) with substantial hands-on experience
• Deep understanding of financial statement logic (P&L, balance sheet, double-entry bookkeeping), not just transaction processing
• Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills; SQL user-level knowledge is a strong plus
• Proven experience with ERP systems (NetSuite highly preferred), both in configuration and daily use
• Excellent stakeholder management: you can prioritize competing demands, meet aggressive deadlines, and maintain quality under pressure
• Fluent German and English (English is the group working language)
• Practical, realistic experience using AI tools effectively within their current capabilities

Desirable background: agency, scale-up, or mid-sized service business experience. We value candidates who can structure ambiguity independently, lead through influence rather than hierarchy, embrace significant operational work, and communicate openly about knowledge gaps. Remote work requires self-direction, organization, reliability, and results focus.

Context: Our client is PE-backed as of 2025, which means reporting requirements and process redesign are happening simultaneously. Expect demanding phases. This is a technical career path with increasing strategic responsibility—but hands-on work remains core. The environment is fully remote (or office-based in Berlin, Hamburg, or Cologne), fast-paced, and dynamic.
