Lenoir County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated part-time Exceptional Children Teacher to join its student support team in Kinston, NC, with a start date of August 11, 2026.
About the Role
This part-time position (Pos. 338267) supports students with disabilities across a range of learning needs within the Lenoir County Public Schools district. As an Exceptional Children Teacher, you will design and deliver specially designed instruction aligned with each student's Individualized Education Program, ensuring every learner has the tools and environment to reach their full potential. This is an in-person role based in Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina.
What You'll Do
- Develop, implement, and regularly review Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and North Carolina state requirements
- Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities using evidence-based strategies tailored to individual learning profiles
- Conduct formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Collaborate with general education teachers, instructional assistants, related service providers, and school administrators to support inclusive practices
- Facilitate and participate in IEP team meetings, maintaining accurate and timely documentation
- Communicate proactively with families and guardians regarding student goals, progress, and support strategies
- Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes student independence and self-advocacy
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state special education regulations and district policies
What We're Looking For
- A current North Carolina Professional Educators license, or documented eligibility to obtain one, in Special Education — General Curriculum (K–12) or Adapted Curriculum (K–12)
- Strong working knowledge of IEP development, specially designed instruction, and special education law
- Ability to differentiate instruction across a range of disability categories and learning needs
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with staff, families, and community partners
- Commitment to high expectations, equity, and positive outcomes for students with exceptional needs
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a K–12 setting is preferred
