Director of Corporate Communications

This is a full-time position based in the United States, where you'll lead all external and internal communication strategies for a company transforming access to credit through intelligent technology.

About the Role

As Director of Corporate Communications at Upstart, you'll oversee the strategic communications function across the organization. You'll be responsible for crafting and executing messaging that resonates with our key audiences—including customers, partners, investors, employees, and regulators. Your leadership will define how Upstart's mission and values reach the world.

What You'll Do

• Develop and implement comprehensive corporate communications strategies aligned with company objectives and market positioning
• Lead media relations, press releases, and thought leadership initiatives featuring company executives
• Manage internal communications to keep employees informed and engaged with company direction and achievements
• Oversee crisis communication protocols and serve as a key advisor during sensitive situations
• Direct brand reputation management across earned media, owned channels, and digital platforms
• Partner with marketing, legal, regulatory, and investor relations teams to ensure messaging consistency
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists, industry analysts, and key opinion leaders
• Monitor industry trends and competitive landscape to inform strategic positioning

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of progressive corporate communications experience, ideally in fintech, financial services, or technology
• Proven track record leading communications teams and managing major campaigns or initiatives
• Strong understanding of financial services regulations and the ability to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with media training experience
• Strategic mindset paired with strong execution and attention to detail
• Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment and manage multiple priorities
• Experience with crisis communication or reputation management is a plus
