Coach – Boys GR8 Basketball

About the Role

As the Boys Grade 8 Basketball Coach at Tefft Middle School, you will lead and mentor middle school student-athletes in basketball, fostering skill development, teamwork, and a commitment to athletic excellence. This full-time coaching position within Illinois School District U-46's athletic department reports directly to the Building Administrator and plays a key role in the school's intramurals and athletics programming.

What You'll Do

• Conduct practice sessions focused on fundamental basketball skills, game strategy, and player development
• Plan and execute training regimens that build athletic competency and confidence
• Foster a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, respect, and personal growth
• Manage team logistics, including equipment, schedules, and game-day coordination
• Collaborate with other coaches and athletic staff within the district
• Maintain compliance with athletic association rules, policies, and safety standards
• May assist with additional athletic or intramural programs including cheerleading, cross country, flag football, soccer, or volleyball as directed by the Building Administrator

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience coaching basketball at the middle school level or equivalent background
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, and game strategy
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with young athletes
• Commitment to student-centered coaching that prioritizes athlete development and safety
• Ability to manage team dynamics and maintain a structured, inclusive practice environment
• Valid coaching certification or willingness to obtain required certifications as mandated by the district
