Communications & Public Relations Intern (Fall 2026)

The Opportunity

This internship places you on the communications team at American Municipal Power, Inc., reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications & Public Relations. You'll contribute to meaningful communications initiatives while building a portfolio of professional work in a collaborative environment. This is an ideal opportunity for communications or public relations majors to transition classroom learning into industry-level experience.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and executing communications campaigns and strategic messaging
• Draft, edit, and format communications materials including web content, fact sheets, and newsletters
• Support media outreach, media relations, and press release efforts
• Conduct research on industry trends, stakeholder communications, and communications best practices
• Contribute to social media content development and community engagement initiatives
• Provide administrative and research support to the strategic communications department
• Participate in communications planning sessions and team meetings

Qualifications

• College student or recent graduate pursuing or holding a degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a professional team environment
• Comfort with Microsoft Office and familiarity with web and social media platforms
• Genuine interest in communications and public relations
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
