Regional School District 17 is hiring a Chemical Hygiene Building Facilitator for a full-time, one-year stipend position serving both Haddam Killingworth High School (HKHS) and Haddam Killingworth Middle School (KMS). This role is available immediately and offers annual stipends of $3,750 at HKHS and $3,500 at HKMS.

About the Role

As Chemical Hygiene Building Facilitator, you'll lead chemical safety and compliance initiatives across both school buildings. This position is critical for maintaining safe laboratory and science classroom environments where students and staff regularly work with chemicals. You'll serve as the primary resource for chemical management, safety protocols, and emergency preparedness throughout the district's secondary facilities.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and maintain chemical hygiene protocols in compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Manage chemical inventory, storage systems, and proper handling procedures across labs and science classrooms
  • Conduct regular inspections and safety audits of chemistry facilities and equipment
  • Train and support staff on chemical handling, storage safety, and emergency procedures
  • Maintain detailed safety documentation including inventory records, compliance reports, and incident tracking
  • Establish and coordinate emergency response procedures for chemical spills and safety incidents
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and state Department of Education safety standards
  • Collaborate with science department leadership and building administrators on safety improvements
