About the Role
University of Tampa seeks a dependable Campus Safety Officer to maintain security and safety across our Tampa campus during overnight operations. You'll be the visible presence our students, faculty, and staff rely on when campus is quietest—providing rapid response to incidents, conducting proactive patrols, and connecting community members with resources they need.
What You'll Do
- Perform regular patrols throughout campus during the 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift to ensure security and deter unsafe behavior
- Respond quickly to emergency calls, safety incidents, and requests for assistance
- Document incidents with thorough, accurate reports and activity logs
- Enforce campus safety policies and university regulations fairly and professionally
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency responders when incidents require external support
- Monitor and secure building access points and facility entrances
- Provide clear, professional communication and de-escalation in all campus interactions
- Maintain awareness of campus conditions and communicate hazards to appropriate departments
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation
- Ability to work full-time on the consistent 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. overnight shift
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Ability to stay composed and respond effectively in emergency or high-stress situations
- Physical capability to perform patrol duties and emergency response
- Willingness to pass background screening and security clearance requirements
