What This Role Involves

As an Associate Gas Controller at Consumers Energy, you'll be part of the operations team responsible for the safe and efficient management of natural gas distribution systems. Working in a 24/7 energy operations environment, you'll monitor system performance, respond to operational changes, and ensure Michigan's residents have continuous access to the energy they depend on. Your work directly supports Consumers Energy's commitment to delivering reliable, clean, and affordable natural gas and electricity to 6.8 million residents across all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.

Core Duties

• Monitor and control natural gas distribution systems and equipment in real-time
• Record operational data and prepare accurate reports for documentation and compliance
• Respond to changing operational conditions and coordinate with other departments
• Perform routine equipment checks and troubleshoot operational issues
• Follow safety protocols and regulatory requirements in all gas operations
• Communicate with supervisors and team members regarding system status and concerns

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to work 24/7 rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational accuracy
• Ability to learn and apply technical knowledge of gas systems
• Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Willingness to obtain required certifications and licenses as specified by the role
