Montville Public Schools seeks an Assistant Football Coach for Montville High School to join our athletics program as a full-time staff member. This is an excellent opportunity to develop student-athletes and contribute to a competitive football program throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
About the Role
As Assistant Football Coach, you will support the head coach in all aspects of program operations, from practice preparation to game-day execution. Working with high school athletes, you'll help refine fundamental skills, implement coaching strategies, and foster a positive team culture. This position runs during the football season, August through November, and may include additional administrative or organizational duties during the school year.
What You'll Do
- Assist in designing and conducting daily practice sessions, including conditioning, drills, and position-specific training
- Mentor and instruct student-athletes on football fundamentals, game strategy, and competitive standards
- Monitor player safety, enforce athletic rules, and promote sportsmanship and team discipline
- Help evaluate player performance and provide feedback to support athletic development
- Assist with game preparation, including player assignments, opponent analysis, and sideline management
- Maintain equipment and facility standards as needed
- Support recruiting, tryouts, or player selection processes as directed
- Collaborate with the coaching staff and athletic department to meet school and district goals
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required
- Demonstrated knowledge of football rules, strategy, and player development
- Current or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification
- Background check clearance and commitment to student safety
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse student populations
- Coaching experience or certification preferred but not required
- Passion for mentoring young athletes and supporting their growth on and off the field
