This Certified Maintenance Bus Mechanic position is based in the Transportation department of Linn-Mar Community School District in Iowa (US) and is an on-site, full-time support staff role. Working with limited oversight, you will handle demanding diagnostic and repair tasks that keep the district's buses and smaller vehicles dependable, road-ready, and safe for the students and staff who rely on them every day. The position reports directly to the Transportation Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, service, and repair the district's school buses and light-duty vehicles to keep the fleet operational
- Carry out preventive maintenance and routine inspections that support reliability and passenger safety
- Perform technically challenging mechanical work independently and to professional standards
- Identify mechanical faults and complete timely, lasting corrective repairs
- Coordinate with the Transportation Manager and team to prioritize and document maintenance work
Qualifications
- Certification as a maintenance or automotive/diesel mechanic
- Hands-on experience repairing and maintaining buses and small vehicles
- Ability to work with minimal supervision on complex mechanical problems
- Strong commitment to vehicle safety, dependability, and quality workmanship
- Availability for a full-time, on-site schedule within the Transportation district
