Position Summary

Headquarters based in the Americas, Customer.io is a global platform used by over 9,000 companies to send billions of emails, push notifications, in-app messages, and SMS daily. Our mission is to help teams automate communication with real-time behavioral data for smarter, more relevant messages. We are seeking a GTM AI Engineer to scale our AI agents from prototypes into production-grade systems that can be relied upon by our GTM teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Alpha-to-production ownership: Transform working v1 of newly built agents into production-ready versions, including writing evaluations, hardening prompts and tool definitions, and refactoring prototype scaffolding into clean, production-quality code.
• Observability & stability: Instrument tracing, logging, and monitoring across the agent fleet to ensure robustness and reliability.

• A point of view — someone who questions decisions and proposes better alternatives.
• Comfortable being wrong — able to experiment quickly and adapt swiftly based on feedback.
• AI-native by default — prefers directing AI tools like Claude to write and QA code over manual coding.

About Customer.io

Over the past 3.5 months, our GTM AI team has built 11 agents now running in production, serving 120 active users and approximately 25,000 tool calls a day — all through custom CLIs that work but weren't designed for scalability. We believe businesses can run leaner and go further when they deploy AI agents well, and we're figuring out this motion in real time.
