About This Position
The Parliamentary Law and Practice Team at the Parliamentary Service is seeking a Senior Policy Advisor to join our team. As a key member of this unique role in supporting New Zealand (nationwide) (nationwide)'s democracy, you will provide expert advice on parliamentary, constitutional, and public law matters, contribute to parliamentary effectiveness, and deliver policy and legislative advice that underpins the operation of Parliament.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal and policy advice on parliamentary, constitutional, and public law issues
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and legislation that support effective parliamentary operations
- Engage with stakeholders, including government departments, parliamentary committees, and external organizations, to inform and influence policy decisions
- Undertake research and analysis on complex legal and policy issues, providing clear and concise advice to senior management and parliamentarians
- Support the team in delivering high-quality, timely, and accurate advice to ensure effective governance and parliamentary operations
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years' experience as a policy advisor or similar role with a focus on legal and constitutional matters
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic, expert legal and policy advice in a fast-paced environment
- Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex legal and policy issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
- A commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and confidentiality when handling sensitive information
