What This Role Involves

This role is a new leadership position focused on shaping and enhancing Aboriginal partnerships and outcomes across Darebin. The incumbent will work closely with various stakeholders to foster positive relationships and contribute to the strategic direction of the council in this area.

Responsibilities

• Foster and maintain strong relationships with local Aboriginal communities, organizations, and individuals
• Develop and implement strategies that support the cultural preservation and advancement of Aboriginal peoples within Darebin
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure a cohesive approach in addressing the needs of Aboriginal residents
• Advocate for policies and programs that promote social justice and equity for Aboriginal communities
• Contribute to the strategic planning process, ensuring Aboriginal perspectives are integral to council initiatives

Skills & Qualifications

• A strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, histories, and contemporary issues
• Demonstrated experience in community engagement and partnership development
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Certified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicant only

The position is based in a convenient Preston location, close to public transport. This role offers a permanent, full-time employment opportunity with a Band 8 salary plus superannuation.
