What This Role Involves

As a Meat Cutter at Hyvee, you'll be the expert behind the counter who transforms whole cuts and primals into the steaks, roasts, and custom portions that customers need. You'll work with precision and care, using professional-grade equipment to prepare and display premium meats that meet our quality standards. This role combines technical skill, food safety knowledge, and direct customer service in one of the most rewarding positions in grocery retail.

Your Responsibilities

• Cut, trim, and portion beef, pork, poultry, and specialty meats to specifications and customer requests
• Operate and maintain meat department equipment safely and hygienically
• Prepare and arrange meat displays in the counter case to maximize visual appeal and product rotation
• Grind meat and prepare specialty items, sausages, and custom orders
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the meat department
• Assist customers with product selection and cooking recommendations
• Monitor inventory and communicate with management about stock needs

Who We're Looking For

• Experience as a meat cutter or butcher, or equivalent training in meat preparation
• Strong knife skills and familiarity with butchering techniques
• Knowledge of food safety and proper meat handling procedures
• Ability to work in a cool environment and remain on your feet for extended periods
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality and presentation
• Friendly demeanor and willingness to help customers
