Role Overview

As a Forward Deployed Engineer specialising in batteries, you'll be the technical bridge between Polaron's engineering teams and our customers. You'll spend significant time in the field—at customer sites, manufacturing facilities, and pilot installations—diagnosing challenges, validating solutions, and accelerating the adoption of our battery systems. This role demands both deep technical competency and the adaptability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments where problems require creative problem-solving on the fly.

Core Duties

  • Deploy battery systems and energy storage solutions at customer locations across the UK and beyond, ensuring seamless installation, commissioning, and integration
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in the field, diagnose root causes, and implement solutions under time pressure
  • Conduct performance testing, validation work, and data collection to support product development and customer success
  • Gather customer feedback, operational insights, and edge-case learnings to inform engineering improvements
  • Collaborate with product, hardware, and software teams to refine designs and resolve complex technical problems identified in the field
  • Provide technical guidance and training to customer teams, ensuring confident operation of systems
  • Document findings, prepare technical reports, and communicate progress clearly to internal and external stakeholders

Requirements

  • Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or equivalent professional experience in battery systems, energy storage, or related hardware domains
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and solve complex technical problems under pressure
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment, data logging, and analysis
  • Strong communication skills—capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical customers and writing clear documentation
  • Comfortable with frequent travel within the UK and occasional international deployments
  • Self-motivated and resourceful; comfortable working independently whilst collaborating effectively with remote teams
  • Experience with embedded systems, power electronics, or battery chemistries is advantageous
