Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential construction technology client seeking a Software Engineer specializing in PLC and operational technology systems. In this role, you will be part of a collaborative product team working at the core of an advanced manufacturing facility.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Understanding and explaining existing PLC and OT code bases to cross-functional team members
- Collaborating with product delivery teams to evolve traditional MES architectures into modern Software Defined Manufacturing solutions
- Integrating systems via OPC-UA with PLCs and developing simulation capabilities for manufacturing orders
- Monitoring, maintaining, and improving software uptime including updates, latency, and efficiency with an operational mindset
- Acting as a bridge between digital product delivery and physical manufacturing systems to ensure alignment and integration
- Defining, monitoring, and evolving SLAs/SLOs and key performance indicators such as OEE for critical systems
- Operating and troubleshooting software during factory working hours as part of team ownership
What We're Looking For
Our talent team is seeking an experienced software or automation engineer with the following qualifications:
- Proven experience with PLC programming or other operational technology systems such as robotics
- Willingness and enthusiasm to adopt modern software engineering practices including code reviews, testing, and CI/CD
- Experience operating and supporting large-scale software or OT systems in production environments
- Background working in companies with strong operational cultures, ideally in logistics or manufacturing, with understanding of the commercial impact of system downtime
- Proficiency with most of the following technologies:
- PLC programming (TIA19 experience is a plus)
- Robot programming (KRL experience is a plus)
- OPC-UA
- MQTT (plus)
- Python, C++, or C# (plus)
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting practices for production systems
- Experience defining and working with SLAs and SLOs
- Willingness to travel to the manufacturing site in Richen, Baden-Württemberg as needed, and within Germany and Austria for team events
