Senior Space Systems Engineer, Mission Optimization

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential aerospace technology organization seeking a Senior Space Systems Engineer, Mission Optimization to join their team in Berlin. This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week on-site.

Our client operates at the forefront of satellite constellation operations, continuously improving fleet productivity and operational efficiency. You will define novel concepts of operations, turning customer commitments and spacecraft capabilities into actionable operational strategies that engineering teams can build and operators can execute.

Responsibilities

• Define and own concepts of operations for new missions, spacecraft capabilities, and customer products from early design through nominal operations
• Lead cross-organizational optimization initiatives, setting technical direction and ensuring alignment with fleet SLAs and KPIs
• Serve as primary technical interface with stakeholders across engineering, operations, and product teams
• Translate contractual and customer obligations into operational concepts and capacity commitments
• Model and analyze fleet performance using operational data to identify optimization opportunities in capacity, latency, and agility
• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions that implement operational concepts
• Provide subject-matter expertise and technical mentorship within the team

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 10+ years of relevant experience in spacecraft operations, mission systems engineering, or closely related field
• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
• Proven ownership of concepts of operations for complex operational systems from definition to implementation
• Working proficiency in Python or comparable language with ability to model systems, analyze operational data, and contribute production code
• Strong quantitative approach including statistical analysis and reasoning over large operational datasets
• Track record of leading technical initiatives across organizational boundaries
• Ability to communicate and negotiate technical positions with senior stakeholders
• Experience mentoring or technically leading other engineers

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience operating or designing operations for large-scale satellite constellations
• Background in optimization, scheduling, or operations research
• Experience taking new missions from design through commissioning and nominal operations
• Familiarity with commercial Earth observation, tasking, or fulfillment systems
• Experience in customer- or partner-facing technical roles
• Knowledge of orbital mechanics, link budgets, and spacecraft resource modeling
• Experience with DevOps tooling and practices (Git, GitLab, Docker, CI/CD, Linux, Sentry, Datadog)
