Robotics Engineer – Freelance (Mid-Level / Senior)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential robotics company that is deploying autonomous systems in real-world production environments. Our client bridges the gap between general-purpose robotics platforms and the precise, reliable automation required on factory floors. This is not a research role—you'll be shipping production code that controls physical robots in manufacturing settings.

We're seeking a mid-level to senior Robotics Engineer on a freelance basis to customize and extend our client's technology stack for specific deployment projects. You'll work hands-on with humanoid and industrial robots, applying modern AI techniques within deterministic safety frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and integrate ROS 2 packages to enable reliable communication, control, and coordination across robotic systems
• Manage data pipelines for teleoperation and imitation learning, ensuring high-quality training datasets
• Handle large-scale datasets required for model fine-tuning and deployment
• Apply reinforcement learning techniques to optimize robot actions for production line performance
• Use high-fidelity simulation environments (NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Omniverse, or similar) to train and validate agents before physical deployment
• Customize and extend the existing technology stack to meet project-specific requirements
• Debug hardware/software interfaces on cutting-edge robotics platforms

What We're Looking For

• BS or MS in Robotics, or equivalent hands-on robotics experience
• 3–5+ years of experience in robotics, deep learning, or embodied AI
• Strong familiarity with ROS 2, including navigation, manipulation, and driver integration
• Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX)
• Experience with Transformers and Vision-Language-Action (VLA) architectures highly desirable
• Hands-on experience with physics-based simulators such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Gazebo, or MuJoCo
• Data engineering skills: managing demonstration datasets, automating data cleaning, building training pipelines
• Ability to debug complex hardware/software systems on non-standard platforms
• C++ experience is a plus
• Professional proficiency in English
• Based in or willing to work with teams in Berlin
