Head of European Accounting (Hub) (m/f/d) – Bexbach | Full-time

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential pharmaceutical manufacturing organization seeking a Head of European Accounting to lead financial operations across German, Swiss, and Norwegian entities. This is a rare chance to take functional and operational leadership of a multi-country accounting function while driving transformation and modernization initiatives.

Based in Bexbach, Germany, this full-time role offers genuine strategic influence: you will prepare consolidated financial statements under HGB, OR, and IFRS, lead ERP implementation projects, and build a high-performing team from the ground up.

Responsibilities

• Prepare standalone and consolidated financial statements for European entities under HGB/OR and IFRS, including notes, disclosures, and management reports
• Own the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement across multiple jurisdictions
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closings, including general ledger, sub-ledgers, provisions, and accruals
• Maintain quality control through regular balance sheet analyses, account reconciliations, and cash flow reporting
• Hold functional and operational responsibility for German and Swiss entities; manage external service providers for Norwegian operations
• Oversee accounting treatment of assets classified as "Held for Sale" under IFRS 5
• Serve as primary contact for auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies
• Develop and maintain an effective internal control system
• Act as subject matter expert on complex accounting matters under HGB and IFRS, including IFRS 16, impairment testing, purchase price allocations, intercompany reconciliations, and foreign currency valuation
• Lead annual budgeting, planning, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
• Partner with operational units on financial matters and investment decisions
• Lead the realignment and modernization of the European accounting function
• Drive the Dynamics 365 Business Central upgrade and digitalization of Record-to-Report, Procure-to-Pay, and Order-to-Cash processes
• Build, recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team

What We're Looking For

Must-Have:

• Completed degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or comparable field
• Several years of leadership experience in accounting within an international company
• Proven experience managing multiple entities and countries
• Strong hands-on operational accounting background
• Excellent knowledge of HGB and IFRS accounting standards
• Fluent in English; German language skills are mandatory

Nice-to-Have:

• Qualification as Wirtschaftsprüfer (certified public accountant), Steuerberater (tax advisor), or equivalent
• Proven track record in transformation projects, organizational development, and ERP implementations
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or comparable systems
• Strong communication, leadership, and change management capabilities
