Front-end Engineer

Front-end Engineer – Manchester

We are representing a confidential media technology organization seeking a senior Front-end Engineer to join their product development team in Manchester. This role offers the opportunity to build high-quality digital platforms and contribute to front-end engineering standards across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Build responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces using TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS
• Work with React Router, Next.js, and similar application frameworks to develop production-grade web applications
• Collaborate closely with designers to transform concepts into usable interfaces, contributing to interaction design and responsive behavior
• Integrate accessibility throughout the development process, ensuring WCAG compliance and testing with assistive technologies
• Monitor and optimize browser performance, including loading behavior, rendering, JavaScript execution, and Core Web Vitals
• Shape component architecture and contribute to reusable design systems and shared patterns
• Write automated tests at appropriate levels, from component tests to end-to-end browser testing
• Review code and mentor less experienced engineers to develop their front-end skills
• Work alongside backend engineers to understand APIs and how front-end integrates with broader platform architecture
• Contribute to the front-end engineering community, sharing best practices and challenging approaches when necessary

What We're Looking For

Core Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS/SCSS, and vanilla JavaScript fundamentals
• Solid experience with TypeScript and React in production web applications
• Experience with React Router, Next.js, or similar application frameworks
• Understanding of browser behavior, semantic HTML, and responsive design principles
• Practical knowledge of automated testing tools such as Vitest, Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, or Cypress

Accessibility & Performance:

• Understanding of WCAG standards and practical application when building interfaces
• Experience with keyboard interaction, focus management, and screen reader testing
• Ability to investigate and improve loading, rendering, and performance metrics
• Experience optimizing for different devices and connection speeds

Collaboration & Leadership:

• Strong collaboration skills with designers, understanding design intent and contributing to solutions
• Ability to review code, share knowledge, and support other engineers' development
• Experience with design systems, Storybook, design tokens, or component libraries is beneficial
• Senior-level engineering judgment and decision-making

Work Authorization:

• Right to work in the United Kingdom is required for this position

Work Arrangement:

• Hybrid model with approximately four days per week in the Manchester office
