About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential digital mental health organization in their search for an Online Adult Counsellor. This is a remote position available to UK-based professionals who are passionate about providing accessible therapeutic support through digital channels.

We are seeking qualified counsellors to deliver text-based online counselling and emotional wellbeing support to adults. This role involves providing both short-term and mid-term therapeutic interventions within a structured digital framework, managing your own caseload, and working flexible shifts between 12:00pm and 10:00pm on weekdays, with some weekend availability required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver text-based online counselling and psychotherapy to adult service users
  • Conduct risk and needs assessments for each individual you support
  • Manage your own caseload and provide structured therapeutic interventions for physical, emotional, and mental health concerns
  • Support adults with complex mental health difficulties through digital therapeutic approaches
  • Complete appropriate signposting and referrals as needed
  • Maintain accurate case notes and clinical records using approved digital systems
  • Work within professional ethical frameworks (BACP or equivalent)
  • Liaise with other professionals regarding safeguarding issues and concerns
  • Ensure compliance with adult safeguarding, child protection, and data protection legislation
  • Participate in clinical supervision, training, and team meetings
  • Manage administrative duties including shift scheduling and rota systems

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications:

  • Relevant professional qualification in Counselling at Level 4 (minimum) recognised by BACP, UKCP, NCS or equivalent
  • Current registration with BACP (MBACP reg.) or equivalent UK Counselling and Psychotherapy awarding body
  • Accreditation-eligibility in counselling or psychotherapy at diploma level (Level 4 minimum) or above
  • Minimum 450 supervised clinical practice hours
  • 3+ years post-qualifying experience as a qualified and clinically supervised Counsellor/Psychotherapist
  • 3+ years post-qualifying experience providing counselling and/or mental health support to adults 18+ in face-to-face or digital settings

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Experience conducting risk and needs assessments, referrals, and providing short-term and long-term counselling/psychotherapy
  • Demonstrated experience in risk management interventions
  • Experience and knowledge of adult safeguarding and child protection policies and legislation
  • Ability to work remotely with reliable broadband connection and competent use of technology
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to manage clinical caseload and administrative tasks independently
  • Availability for minimum 30 hours per week comprising 4 or 6-hour shifts across afternoons, evenings, and weekends
  • Understanding of social, environmental, and economic factors impacting mental health
  • Resilient, empathetic, and mentally equipped to support individuals in distress
  • Clear understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion principles
  • Collaborative approach to working across multi-disciplinary teams

Note: This position requires a successful enhanced DBS check as part of recruitment procedures.

Pay

This is a 30-hour per week position (pro rata of full-time 35 hours). The client offers a competitive salary dependent on experience, approximately £27,972 pro rata. Additional benefits through the employer include generous annual leave (36 days including public holidays), pension contributions, annual company share options, AXA health plan, Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 mental health support and GP access, life assurance up to 4x annual salary, incapacity income protection, and paid monthly clinical supervision.
