Principal Platform Architect (Public Sector)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a leading technology consultancy serving the public sector across the United Kingdom. Our client is seeking a Principal Platform Architect to lead cloud transformation initiatives that impact millions of users. This is a senior-level position requiring proven leadership in platform delivery and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of cloud platforms underpinning large-scale transformation programs including migration, modernization, and new application deployment
• Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders including C-level executives to establish architectural principles and strategic platform direction
• Set technology direction for AI-augmented platform delivery, engaging stakeholders on AI strategy, governance, and ROI
• Guide multidisciplinary agile teams in making informed technical decisions by establishing shared understanding of outcomes, technical landscape, and design complexity
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop blueprints and standards while actively sharing subject-matter expertise
• Maintain curiosity toward AI capabilities, experimenting responsibly with new approaches while balancing innovation with pragmatic delivery
• Coach and develop team members and the wider technical community

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

• Proven experience leading delivery of platforms for large-scale cloud transformation projects
• Track record of technology leadership and decision-making that drives positive customer outcomes
• Experience building relationships with executive and C-level stakeholders, translating technical information appropriately for effective decision-making
• Strong expertise with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) spanning IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS
• Demonstrated ability managing, coaching, and developing team members
• Proven experience applying AI to improve outcomes, evolve working practices, and solve complex business challenges with sustainable results

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience developing business alongside sales and account management teams
• Background managing others including setting objectives, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviews
• Active participation in technology communities and thought leadership
• Experience bringing challenging projects back on track
• Track record creating and promoting new products or services aligned to organizational strategy
• Experience shaping organizational platform capabilities that improve developer experience, productivity, and customer value
• Interest in emerging trends such as platform engineering and agentic delivery patterns
