About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential global asset management firm seeking a Senior Risk Engineer for their London office. This is a senior-level, hands-on technical role at the intersection of software engineering, derivatives risk, and investment decision-making. You will architect and build production-grade risk intelligence capabilities that directly support portfolio managers and risk teams in understanding complex portfolios, stress scenarios, factor exposures, and trade-level analytics across multiple asset classes.

This position offers direct exposure to the investment process, working closely with portfolio managers, risk managers, and quantitative research teams. You will own components of the risk technology platform end-to-end—from initial problem definition through production deployment and ongoing support. The role provides broad exposure across strategies and asset classes, with the opportunity to shape the evolution of enterprise risk systems at a sophisticated institutional investor.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain production-grade components of a cross-asset risk technology platform, remaining close to code, data, and end users throughout the development lifecycle
• Develop scalable risk capabilities including Greeks and sensitivities, stress scenario analysis, VaR, P&L attribution, factor analytics, margin calculation, and exposure aggregation
• Partner directly with portfolio managers and risk managers to translate complex derivatives and portfolio challenges into practical software solutions
• Build APIs, data pipelines, and interactive decision-support tools that help investment teams understand portfolio changes, risk drivers, and potential actions at trade, desk, and fund levels
• Implement pricing and risk methodologies as scalable services with clear documentation of model assumptions, calibration approaches, and validation procedures
• Develop risk intelligence tools that transform analytics and research into actionable investment insights, helping users analyze scenarios, diagnose P&L, and access validated analytics
• Engineer resilient risk services integrating position data, market data, reference data, and internal or third-party analytics libraries, with comprehensive testing and data lineage
• Collaborate with technology, data, and AI teams to deliver high-value roadmap components using common platforms and engineering standards

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering, quantitative development, or risk technology within hedge funds, asset managers, investment banks, or comparable capital markets environments
• Proven track record of personally designing, building, and supporting production-grade risk, pricing, or trading systems with end-to-end project ownership
• Advanced proficiency in Python and/or Java, plus SQL; practical experience with APIs, distributed architectures, databases, and large-scale data processing
• Strong understanding of derivatives and cross-asset risk analytics, including option pricing models, Greeks, scenario analysis, and VaR methodologies
• Demonstrated architecture and engineering judgment with focus on maintainability, performance, controls, and operational resilience
• Ability to critically assess model outputs, challenge assumptions, trace discrepancies across data and methodology, and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience integrating internally developed and third-party pricing/risk libraries with attention to data lineage, reconciliation, and controls
• Clear communication skills and evidence of technical leadership through ownership, judgment, and delivery in collaborative environments

Highly valued additional skills:

• Hands-on experience applying machine learning, large language models, or AI tools in controlled production environments with proper evaluation, monitoring, and oversight
• Experience with modern engineering platforms including cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD pipelines, streaming architectures, and observability tools
• Deep product and risk knowledge in at least one asset class (equities, fixed income, credit, commodities, FX) combined with working understanding across multiple asset classes
• Knowledge of factor risk models and margin analytics

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are competitive with senior engineering roles in the London financial services market. The position includes eligibility for performance-based incentives in addition to base salary.
