Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential global connectivity and communications platform in their search for a Forward Deployed Engineer based in Munich. This is a unique technical role working directly with enterprise customers across the DACH region.

You will be part of a two-person Enterprise Sales Pod — partnering with a dedicated Account Executive to build enterprise business in your market. While your AE partner owns executive relationships and commercial qualification, you own the entire technical side from discovery through production launch.

In this role, you will:

  • Embed directly with enterprise customers to understand their communications workflows, AI use cases, and integration challenges
  • Build and deploy custom implementations using voice, messaging, fax, wireless APIs, and WebRTC technologies
  • Design and implement AI Voice Assistants and conversational systems for production environments
  • Deploy and operate LLM gateways in customer environments, providing unified OpenAI-compatible interfaces across self-hosted open-weight models and hosted providers
  • Run open-weight LLMs through managed inference APIs or deploy self-hosted stacks when air-gapped or sovereign-cloud requirements demand it
  • Instrument production observability for everything you ship — metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or customer-preferred stacks
  • Design model routing strategies for real-time voice workloads, balancing latency, cost, and quality with robust fallback behavior
  • Adapt models to customer domains through prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, and evaluation harnesses for German-language use cases and DACH-specific regulatory environments
  • Lead POCs, pilots, and production launches from whiteboard to go-live, staying engaged until solutions are stable
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to shape roadmap based on field insights from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland
  • Create clear technical documentation, runbooks, and maintainable solutions for handoff
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues alongside customer engineering teams

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • CS degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years building and shipping production software — you have written code that real users depended on, been on-call for it, and debugged it under pressure
  • Proficiency in multiple languages: Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Go
  • Practical understanding of production LLM challenges: provider rate limits and quotas, timeout and retry behavior, streaming, token accounting, and concurrency failure modes
  • Comfortable deploying containerized services on Kubernetes with proper secrets management, configuration, and upgrade strategies
  • Experience wiring observability and being paged — Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Graylog, ELK, or equivalent tools
  • High-concurrency experience with Kafka, message queues, or event streams at scale, understanding consumer lag, backpressure, hot partitions, and throughput optimization
  • You have built APIs from scratch — OpenAPI spec, REST/GraphQL design, auth, rate limiting, versioning, idempotency
  • Event-driven thinking and cloud-native instincts
  • Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, or real-time voice/messaging systems
  • Self-sufficient by default — ability to read code and docs, ask customers directly, and make sound engineering judgment calls independently
  • Customer-facing engineering experience — comfortable running technical discovery with engineers and presenting to executives
  • Ability to translate "it's not working" into root cause
  • Comfortable working on customer sites and in high-stakes technical conversations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and German, including whiteboard sessions, live troubleshooting, and escalations
  • Based in Munich or willing to relocate — this is a hybrid role with travel across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland
  • Legally authorized to work in Germany, or eligible for sponsorship

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with AI voice assistants, STT/TTS, or LLM-based conversational systems
  • Building evaluation sets for specific domains
  • Production experience with LLM gateways including config-driven model definitions, routing and fallback rules, and virtual key management
  • Familiarity with open-weight model landscape and EU sovereign AI initiatives
  • Experience with inference serving engines like vLLM, SGLang, or TGI, and GPU capacity planning for self-hosted models
  • SQL proficiency (Postgres, MySQL, Oracle)
  • ETL and data wrangling experience
  • CI/CD pipeline design and automation
  • Background in telecom, CPaaS, or high-growth SaaS
  • Experience with sovereign or on-prem cloud deployments and DACH regulatory frameworks (GDPR, EU AI Act, German data sovereignty and localization requirements, Swiss data protection)
  • Security mindset (IAM, encryption, audit logging)
