Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential energy technology organization in their search for a Pre-Sales Senior Engineer based in London or Bristol (hybrid). This role sits at the critical intersection of technical development and commercial success, building high-fidelity demonstrations that win new clients.
As a Senior Pre-Sales Engineer, you will be a developer-plus technical contributor responsible for:
- AI-Accelerated Prototyping: Leveraging LLMs such as Claude and Gemini to rapidly scaffold, build, and iterate on proof-of-concept applications and mock services, moving faster than traditional development sprints by using AI to handle boilerplate and logic generation
- Technical Asset Development: Designing, building, and maintaining reusable mock services in Node.js/TypeScript, implementing contract-first APIs (REST/GraphQL), managing AWS deployments (API Gateway, Containers), and handling persistence using PostgreSQL or DynamoDB
- Infrastructure as Code: Managing demo environments using Terraform, ensuring environments are reproducible and secure using existing OIDC authentication patterns
- Frontend Collaboration: Working closely with frontend engineers to ensure UI components integrate cleanly with your mock services, debugging integration issues and supporting end-to-end demo flows
- Strategic Pre-Sales Support: Partnering with Pre-Sales consultants to translate client requirements into working technical artefacts, occasionally demonstrating directly to clients how the platform solves their specific challenges
- Product and UX Influence: Collaborating with Design and Product teams while developing your own design ideas to showcase the platform's capabilities
- Mentorship and Standards: Setting informal engineering standards for the pre-sales team and mentoring others on API design and architecture
- AI Evangelism: Acting as the resident expert in GenAI workflows for the Commercial team, mentoring others on how to use AI to bridge the gap between presentations and working software
This role is NOT about building production systems or pure presentation work. Your value comes from building production-shaped assets that enable credible technical storytelling and high-fidelity client validation.
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications and experience:
- Software Engineering Foundation: Strong hands-on experience in Node.js/TypeScript and React, with the ability to write code from scratch
- GenAI Power User: Deep experience leveraging LLMs and Generative AI to build applications, debug complex issues, and accelerate the development lifecycle—not just using an AI assistant, but building complete proof-of-concepts with AI assistance
- API Design Expert: Experience designing clean, well-documented APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) and using Git/GitHub workflows effectively
- Cloud and Infrastructure Knowledge: Familiarity with AWS primitives and proven ability to deploy infrastructure using Terraform
- Pragmatic and Autonomous: Comfortable operating with ambiguity, translating vague client requirements into working systems through high initiative
- Existing right to work in the UK: This role cannot offer visa sponsorship at this time
What will set you apart:
- A track record of building internal tools, sales demos, or high-fidelity proof-of-concepts using AI-first workflows
- Understanding of challenges facing energy retailers or similar complex B2B industries
- Practical knowledge of OIDC-based authentication flows
- Talent for sharing UX/UI design thinking with wider product teams
You are a software engineer by trade but a prototyper by heart. You understand the rigour of clean code but know when to lean into AI to accelerate delivery. You are motivated by the immediate impact of winning new clients and validating value propositions in real-time.
