Security Engineer, Detection & Response

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential adtech organization seeking a Security Engineer, Detection & Response to join their growing security team. This is a full-time, remote position available across multiple U.S. states.

Our client operates a high-scale platform processing millions of requests per second. Their security team takes a software engineering approach to protection, building automated tools and systems that defend infrastructure, web applications, mobile products, and IT environments. This role offers the opportunity to lead detection and response capabilities while working alongside a security-conscious engineering culture.

This position is ideal for someone who wants to stay hands-on with code, detections, and incident response while making strategic investments in modern SOC tooling, including AI-augmented platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own daily operations of the organization's SIEM platform—managing log source ingestion, detection content authoring, and alert investigation workflows
• Lead adoption and implementation of AI-augmented SOC tooling as part of a multi-year security modernization initiative
• Triage security alerts and coordinate investigation and remediation efforts with engineering and IT stakeholders
• Lead security incident response activities including investigation, containment, and post-incident review processes
• Build automation and tooling to detect active threats, enrich alerts, and reduce manual investigation overhead
• Partner with engineering and IT teams to enable self-service detection and response capabilities through clear documentation and accessible runbooks
• Integrate offensive security findings and proactive research into detection coverage strategies
• Collaborate across security functions on cloud, infrastructure, and application security initiatives
• Participate in the security team's on-call rotation and incident response program

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in security engineering, security operations, detection engineering, or software engineering with security focus
• Production SIEM operation experience including log source onboarding, detection content development, and alert triage
• Ability to write production-quality code for security automation and detection-as-code implementations
• Demonstrated experience leading or contributing substantially to security incident response
• Strong technical writing skills for design documentation, runbooks, and post-incident reviews
• Proven judgment in prioritizing security work using risk-based approaches
• Ability to navigate large, unfamiliar codebases and reason about complex engineering systems
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with AI-augmented SOC platforms or building LLM-augmented investigation tooling
• Experience operating security programs in large-scale cloud environments
• Cloud incident response experience, particularly in AWS
• Endpoint forensics capabilities for Mac and/or Linux systems
• Detection-as-code workflows in CI/CD pipelines
• Background in mobile adtech or high-volume SaaS environments

The client maintains hubs in California and New York, and employees are expected to attend in-person team gatherings at least quarterly for collaboration and team-building.

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai varies by location:

• SF Bay Area, Los Angeles/Orange County, NYC, Seattle: $200,000 - $240,000
• Other California and Washington locations, Austin, Boston, Denver, Portland: $184,000 - $220,000
• All other approved locations: $172,000 - $206,000
