About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking a Senior Product Manager, Data Infrastructure to join their team in Aix-en-Provence, France (Hybrid). This role stewards the product direction of a critical data platform that serves as the foundation for engineering, analytics, and emerging AI-driven workflows across the organization.
Our client operates a mature data infrastructure that supports millions of transactions and interactions. The Data Infrastructure team builds the platform every other data team depends on: governed access to shared data, orchestration, ingestion pipelines, and the strategic retirement of legacy systems. The platform is evolving toward self-service tooling and AI-ready architecture, where both human engineers and autonomous agents can work safely and efficiently on a single source of truth.
Responsibilities
- Manage governed platform access, ensuring engineers, analysts, and services have safe, auditable access to shared data with clear, easy-to-follow pathways.
- Streamline orchestration and scheduling by consolidating fragmented tools into a unified system, using AI-assisted migration to reduce manual engineering effort.
- Define and build self-service data ingestion capabilities for teams bringing new data sources onto the platform.
- Oversee the retirement of legacy systems, ensuring clear ownership handoffs and complete migrations without service disruption.
- Optimize compute cost efficiency by identifying cost drivers rooted in legacy habits rather than operational need, reducing spend without degrading developer experience.
- Advance compute strategy diversification by enabling a storage layer compatible with multiple compute engines, so workloads run on the most appropriate infrastructure.
- Build the platform's AI-ready substrate, ensuring agentic workflows operate with the same governed access and audit trails as human-driven processes.
- Use AI agents in daily product work and establish norms that encourage safe experimentation with agentic workflows across the engineering organization.
- Protect the team's focus by stewarding outcomes rather than micromanaging tasks, and build trust across engineering, domain teams, and leadership through transparent communication.
- Collaborate closely with data mesh enablement, managed data products, and agentic workflow teams to align on one cohesive technical strategy.
What We're Looking For
- Five or more years of product management experience on a data or infrastructure platform team, where you directly stewarded technical roadmaps.
- Comfortable reading system architecture and pipeline dependencies well enough to make real sequencing and prioritization decisions with engineering.
- Proven track record of taking cross-team migrations and system retirements all the way to completion, not just to a plan.
- Transparent about areas of growth and open to learning, rather than presenting incomplete information as resolved under pressure.
- Experience weighing compute cost against performance and developer experience, and driving tradeoff decisions rather than just planning around them (preferred).
- Working knowledge of how AI agents consume data and tools differently from people, and judgment on when vendor-provided agent layers already address a need (preferred).
- A proactive approach to navigating new technical systems, identifying key contacts, and resolving open questions independently (preferred).
