Sr. Counsel, Employment (APAC & EMEA)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology client in their search for a Senior Counsel, Employment to lead employment legal operations across APAC and EMEA regions. This role is based remotely in the UK and offers the opportunity to build global infrastructure while providing hands-on employment law guidance across multiple jurisdictions.

As the primary legal partner for international employment matters, you will design scalable programs, advise on day-to-day employee relations, and lead cross-border workforce projects. This position reports to senior legal leadership and collaborates closely with HR, business leaders, and litigation teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary legal counsel to HR and business leaders on employment matters across APAC and EMEA regions, delivering practical and timely guidance
• Advise on the full employee lifecycle including onboarding, performance management, leaves of absence, accommodations, and separations across multiple jurisdictions
• Design and build scalable global employment legal programs including template libraries, playbooks, policies, and training materials to support expansion into new markets
• Lead cross-border projects such as market entry, reorganizations, workforce transitions, and M&A integration, including works council consultations where required
• Conduct and oversee internal investigations related to employee conduct and partner with litigation teams on employment disputes and claims
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments across APAC, EMEA, and other regions, translating changes into actionable compliance guidance
• Draft, review, and localize employment agreements, offer letters, handbooks, restrictive covenants, and separation agreements for multiple countries
• Advise on global immigration matters including UK and EU sponsorship, work authorization, and UK sponsor license compliance
• Partner with People teams on compensation, benefits, and workforce programs ensuring compliance with local labor laws
• Drive compliance audits covering wage and hour, pay equity, and worker classification, guiding remediation efforts as needed
• Deliver training on employment law developments and best practices across the organization
• Use data and trends to identify systemic workforce risk and recommend mitigation strategies

What We're Looking For

• J.D. or equivalent law degree with active bar admission or practicing qualification in a relevant jurisdiction (U.S. state bar, England & Wales, Australia, or equivalent)
• 7+ years of employment law experience post-graduation, ideally combining law firm and in-house practice
• Substantial experience advising on employment matters in APAC and/or EMEA jurisdictions
• Demonstrated experience navigating multi-jurisdictional, cross-border employment issues at a fast-growing global organization
• Track record of building or scaling employment law programs including policies, templates, training, and compliance audits
• Comfort advising outside your home jurisdiction and managing networks of local and external counsel
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership
• Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical business guidance
• Sound judgment and ability to work autonomously through ambiguity while managing high-volume, multi-region workload
• English fluency required; proficiency in additional languages (German, French, Spanish, Tagalog, Japanese) is a strong plus
