Senior Server-Side Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology consulting organization in their search for a Senior Server-Side Engineer to join their fully remote team. This role focuses on designing and building high-throughput backend platform capabilities that power distributed systems at scale.

Location: 100% Remote (United States)
Employment Type: Full-time, Direct W2
Experience Required: 6+ years in backend or platform engineering

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Design, build, and operate foundational platforms and shared services used by engineering teams across the organization
• Develop backend platform capabilities including request routing, traffic management, data fan-out, and caching layers
• Build asynchronous job execution systems and durable event processing infrastructure
• Ensure high-throughput systems maintain predictable latency and minimal operational overhead
• Lead technical projects and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams
• Mentor team members and contribute to technical documentation and best practices

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• 6+ years of backend, platform, or software engineering experience
• Strong experience designing and building distributed systems and internal platforms
• Proficiency in Java, Go, Scala, Rust, or C++
• Hands-on experience with event-driven technologies such as Kafka, Pulsar, or NATS
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, NoSQL, and search databases
• Proven ability to lead technical projects and collaborate across teams
• Excellent communication, documentation, and mentoring skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Kubernetes and platform engineering
• Contributions to open-source infrastructure projects
• Knowledge of service mesh, workflow orchestration, or platform APIs
• Experience with API versioning and backward compatibility strategies
• Technical blogging, conference speaking, or other community involvement
